This week saw our CEO, Brian Palmer become one of the top 50 engineers from the UK and around the world elected as Fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering. This honour recognised Brian for outstanding and continuing contributions to the engineering profession.
The Royal Academy of Engineering was founded in 1976, and is the UK’s national academy for engineering and technology. The ‘Fellows’ are the most successful and talented engineers from academia and business who advance and promote excellence in engineering for the benefit of society.
Brian joined other high profile figures receiving their Fellowship at the same time, from prestigious universities and other businesses. These included engineering professors from Cambridge, Manchester and Sheffield and the top people from BP, Shell and BAE systems and others.
As a result of the 50 new Fellows, there is now nearly 1,600 world-leading engineers contributing to the huge expertise and knowledge pool worldwide.
A comment from Brian:
This is a tremendous accolade and I am delighted to be named as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. I am looking forward to forging close collaborative relationships and exchanging ideas and knowledge with my peers as part of my new role.
Professor Dame Ann Dowling OM DBE FREng FRS, President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, said:
I am delighted to welcome all our new Fellows to the Academy – together they epitomise the very best of UK engineering. Representing the country’s most innovative and creative minds from both academia and industry, the achievements of our new Fellows highlight the critical role engineering has in addressing major societal challenges and ensuring our readiness for the future.
